Job Description

Moraine Lake Bus Company is hiring two people for the Ultimate Canadian Summer Job. These two explorers will work for us in summer 2024 and be responsible for hiking, scrambling and paddling their way across the Canadian Rockies, with a focus on the areas surrounding Moraine Lake & Lake Louise.

The position runs from June 15, 2024 until August 15, 2024.

The selected applicants will hike, scramble and paddle across key points of interest in the Lake Louise & Moraine Lake area, while producing compelling written and photographic content about their journey. Each week, our explorers will enjoy a unique destination experience (mountaintops, tea-houses, famous lakes, sunrises, etc.)  with the intention of covering most of the experiences available to visitors.

Each successful applicant will receive $8,000 + free accommodation in Banff for 2 months work, and a bonus of $2,000 payable upon the completion of the term, subject to the discretion of Moraine Lake Bus Company.

Purpose of the Role

As a brand, Moraine Lake Bus Company is all about encouraging people to get outside and enjoy the Canadian Rockies. There may be no better way to embody this than by exploring the trails around Moraine Lake and Lake Louise and writing about your adventures. From high mountain passes (Sentinel and Wenkchemna), to paddling at the lakeshore (Lake Louise & Moraine Lake), to mid-mountain teahouses (Plain of Six Glaciers, Lake Agnes) to everything in between (Consolation Lakes, Fairview Lookout, and more!).

Moraine Lake Bus Company was founded in 2022 and is building its legacy of supporting Bow Valley locals in the outdoors. Since its founding, Moraine Lake Bus Company has always provided 100% free shuttles to Banff locals, and provided free or heavily-discounted early-morning shuttles to climbers and mountaineers. We also donate tickets to local fundraisers and charities (if this is you – reach out to us and we can likely support your organization).

Moraine Lake Bus Company explorers are outgoing, adventurous, outdoorsy, knowledgeable and personable individuals who will share their love of the outdoors as they explore the Canadian Rockies.

DELIVERABLES AND CONDUCT:

• Moraine Lake Bus Company explorers will provide regular, transparent and timely communication while in the field.
• There is a requirement to ensure regular delivery of creative content (journals/blogs/photography/video) on prescribed timelines and quality standards
• A high level of positive energy is essential as a Moraine Lake Bus Company explorer
• You will embody our brand values while interacting with the general public and/or producing public-facing branded content
• You must comply with all local, provincial and federal laws
• Safety and common sense are critical to this program’s success. Basic safety guidelines (e.g. wearing of life jacket while canoeing) must be followed at all times. The team must also avoid situations that might put them at risk. Professional guides may be retained to escort our Moraine Lake Bus Company explorers in more challenging locations (if required).

SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS:

• You have experience in the outdoors (hiking and camping)
• You get social media and are a skilled communicator. You are an avid social media contributor and content creator.
• You work well with people and inspire others.
• Some experience or training in media or SEO is a bonus

TERM:

• A 2 month contract from June 15, 2024 until August 15, 2024 (we can be a little flexible)
• The program requires the explorers to work 40 hours/week

COMPENSATION:

$8,000 salary, $2,000 bonus, and free accommodation in Banff for the 2 month term
